Funny that a lot of analytical people will evaluate the statements you make “about” yourself, or in answering “Who are you?” with rhetoric such as “that’s what you do” or “that’s your job”. I think the one universal thing people think/know “about” me is that I’m an Eagle Scout. People who didn’t know it directly still tend to think “he’s such a Boy Scout” because of how I act and how I think. One of my good friends even nicknamed me “The Last Boy Scout” before ever knowing how true it was. For those not familiar, here are the Boy Scout Laws that we are taught to strive to follow. A Scout is:
- Trustworthy
- Loyal
- Helpful
- Friendly
- Courteous
- Kind
- Obedient
- Cheerful
- Thrifty
- Brave
- Clean
- Reverent
In my teens, some of these held a very different interpretation for me than today. I’m certainly not perfect, but I do try and measure myself to these regularly.
In a nutshell, I would say that I am a very thoughtful and intentional person. I am the type of person who expresses what I think – I call it like I see it. If we’re friends, I’ve got your back; but if we disagree or I think you’re in the wrong I’ll still let you know respectfully. If we’re acquaintances, you’ve probably noticed how likely I am to greet with a smile, offer help when needed, and carry myself like I have respect and integrity. If we haven’t met yet, I’d like to meet you someday. If we don’t get along… well, it’s likely I just have nothing to do with you then – I don’t have time or energy for hate.
